Snowy Mount Snow Ski Vacation

There’s nothing quite like fresh powder, especially when you’re on a ski trip with your family and friends. Last winter, we had the pleasure of reuniting with our dear friends from Connecticut when we went skiing for a week at Mount Snow in Vermont. Whitney’s childhood friend, Ali, her family Laura, Ava, and Mila, joined us for a memorable trip. Despite not seeing much of each other for years, our kids hit it off immediately, and we couldn’t be happier to have initiated what we hope will become an annual tradition.

We rented a ski-in/ski-out condo at Season’s Condo’s.  The location was excellent due to having kids, varying abilities, and interests in skiing.  We were lucky enough to experience a foot of fresh snow right before we arrived and consistent snow throughout the week!

On our first day at Mount Snow, we went tubing, and the kids had a blast. Although we waited in line longer than we went down the hill, it was worth it for the kids. Our excitement to hit the slopes the next day was palpable.  To our delight, we were blessed with a few inches of snow every night and eight inches on the last night. However, skiing on powder is a different animal than skiing on groomed trails, and the kids found that out quickly. Nonetheless, we were ready to hit the slopes and make some unforgettable memories.

Early the next morning, we made our way to the slopes, Shannon, who loves being on a mountain and the only snowboarder in the group, was teaching everyone that first chair is worth it – powder, freshly groomed trails, and no lines. As we glided down the snowy mountainside, we the newfound challenges of skiing in freshly fallen snow as opposed to groomed trails. Nevertheless, we loved the adrenaline rush that skiing in fresh powder brought.

We were amazed by the diversity of the available ski trails in Mount Snow. The Sundance Express Lift, near our condo, was a great high-speed lift that took us to some fantastic beginner trails. The kids gravitated towards Deer Run and Long John, wide, long trails that allowed them to hit some jumps and even go through some trees if they wished. It was great to watch them challenge themselves and improve their skiing skills while having fun.

Keely and Ava, in particular, became quick ski buddies, closely matched in terms of skiing level. They would challenge each other every step of the way, screaming, and playing follow the leader. They were always patient with Ryder, who was more of a slow and steady skier, preferring to turn and find jumps.

We discovered one of our favorite lifts on the slopes at Mount Snow, the Bluebird Express, which has a cover. It was the first lift of its kind that any of us had been on. The express lifts in Mount Snow were incredible, but we were surprised to learn that they must shut down if it was too icy out of safety concerns. We would go indoors and wait for things to get better at the smaller 2-seater lifts.

As we retired to our condo every afternoon, we were exhausted yet happy, reflecting on the challenges, camaraderie, and fun we’d experienced that day. We played games, laughed, and ate and drank well. The kids were awestruck that skiing in powder was so much different, and we realized that it was such an effortless and enjoyable way to learn new things together. It was a vacation that we would never forget.  We thoroughly enjoyed our experience skiing at Mount Snow with our dear friends and their family. It was nice to see our kids become fast friends (and ski buddies).
